Welcome to Two Wheels Motorcycle Training, the leading provider of motorcycle training for Edinburgh and the Lothians. We are a Honda Approved School of Motorcycling and use Honda motorcycles to train students.
Since 1991, we at Two Wheels have taken great pride in offering the best training available, giving over 7,000 new riders a first start on the road. With experienced, highly qualified instructors, a fleet of modern hire bikes to train on, and the latest in communication equipment we are in pole position to get you on the road.
If you've never ridden a bike, our large on-site training area is perfect for quickly familiarising and gaining confidence in the feel and controls of a motorcycle. The area is adjacent to the Training School and not accessed by other vehicles.
We offer a one-hour trial session with an instructor in a safe off-road environment, which will allow you to decide whether or not motorcycling is for you. This may be an ideal option if you are not sure whether to book a Compulsory Basic Training course.
This is a 3-hour lesson that normally begins on a 125cc in our yard lasting 3 hours and can finish on the road on a 650cc depending on the individual and how rusty your skills are.
The training for our Intensive course will normally run over the weekend. Starting on a Friday and finishing on the Sunday. The Start time for each day is 08:00 and finishing around 12:00. The Module 1 test will either be on the next Tuesday or Thursday the following week (the test day and time will depend on availability from the DVSA).
If you successfully pass your Module 1 test, approximately 11days later on a Saturday afternoon between 13:00 and 16:00, you will have a refresher lesson before your Module 2 test. The Module 2 test will be on a Monday morning, again the test time will depend on availability from the DVSA.
Module one is conducted off-road and is a test of your ability to handle the bike. Module two is an on-road driving test conducted by a Driving Standard Agency examiner accompanying you on another motorcycle.
We will provide the motorcycle and insurance. We do NOT provide a helmet but can help with jacket and gloves. Within the course your first attempt at the Module 1 and Module 2 bike test fees are covered. If you fail either of the Modules, you will be liable for resit fees
Training for Category A1 (Light Motorcycle) tests or preparation for A2 or A courses can be carried out by arrangement
All learner motorcyclists must complete a course of Compulsory Basic Training before riding on the road. The CBT has a structured syllabus, starting off with a talk about motorcycling, equipment and basic safety, before introducing you to the bike you will use for the course.
Having been shown over the bike and how to operate the controls, you will carry out supervised manoeuvres to gain experience riding the bike in a safe off-road environment. When the instructor is happy with the standard achieved, he will then give another talk about riding safely on the road, before taking you out onto public roads for a minimum of two hours, and until you have displayed safe and competent riding in a variety of traffic situations. Off-road training will be conducted at a maximum ratio of four pupils per instructor, on-road training at a maximum of 2:1.
For the CBT, we will provide the motorcycle and insurance. We do NOT provide a helmet but can help with Jacket and Gloves. Our New Rider CBT costs £199 and runs over two days. Either a Monday, Tuesday the Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, Friday. The CBT would start at 09:00 and will finish at approximately 16:00. If you are unable to complete the CBT course in the 2 days you will return for additional training which will take place on a Wednesday (the date for additional training would be discussed at the end of the day on the 2nd day of the course). The CBT Course entitlement is up to 15 hours (read the terms and conditions) after this we will charge £25 per hour for any additional training (minimum of 3-hour bookings). Currently there is no availability for CBT over the weekend.
For our Two Wheels customers returning after 2 years to renew their CBT or a new customer who has a CBT Certificate that is no more than 6 months out of date we offer a 1-day CBT course. The cost is £170.
NOTE - The course we have created is designed to give you the best chance of completing the CBT. If you have no experience of riding a bike or riding on the UK roads it may take longer. Any preparation before the CBT (e.g. Highway Code, hazard perception) will greatly increase your chances of completing within the allotted time so you do not incur any additional fees. You must attend on time, with your driving licence.
